Choosing St Alban’s Catholic Primary School

We are really pleased that you are thinking about joining our school. If you are a parent with a child coming from Nursery, we have an extensive induction program which helps us get to know your child well before they join our school in September. We understand that parents may be excited and perhaps a little anxious about their child’s first days in school, so we try to make it as smooth a transition as possible.

If you are joining us from another school part-way through the year, you will be invited to a meeting with the Class Teacher and/or a member of senior management, to provide you an opportunity to tell us about your child and their needs.

Your child will be 'buddied' with friends in their class who will support them making friendships, and settling in to school life at St Alban's.

After a few weeks in school, we will arrange a further meeting with you to see how your child has settled and if there are any queries you have.

Our Transition Programme Includes:

Before September

  • ‘Meet and Greet’ at the school where your child will play in their classroom and you have the opportunity to ask questions.

  • The Reception teacher will visit your child in their nursery setting.

Induction Pack

You will be provided with our welcome pack. Inside there will be a copy of the school parent handbook, a pack for you and your child to complete together and a range of essential paperwork which we will require for you to complete and return. Please bring all your completed paperwork with you on your child’s first day.

September

  • On your child’s start day, you will be invited to meet the class teacher and head teacher. This meeting has been arranged to provide you with an opportunity to tell us about your child and discuss any concerns you may have.

  • To ensure a happy and smooth transition for your child, the pupils will start on different days and times and the first week will be a shorter timetable. For your child's first day, please arrive at the school main foyer on the date and time provided in your pack.

  • Your child will finish school early on their first day and every day of their first week. After your child’s first day they will start school at 8.55am.

Please do not hesitate to pop in, or pick up the phone if you have any concerns at all. We are committed to ensuring that every child has the very best, happiest and smoothest start to their school life.
