UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award
The Rights Respecting Schools Award puts children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK and embeds children’s rights in the daily life of the school, empowering children to grow into responsible active global citizens.
St. Alban’s Primary School is proud to be working with UNICEF to create a safe and inspiring place to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive.

UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.
St Alban’s Catholic Primary School’s pupils learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.

Rights Respecting Senedd Committee
A group of pupils meet weekly to discuss their ideas, opinions and carryout actions which are on their action plan. The Right Respecting Committee are working towards achieving the Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award.
They inform the school community about their rights and how the adults as ‘duty holders’ have a responsibility to enable children to have their rights.
Actions so far include:
- Organising an event day to celebrate International Children’s Day.
- Create posters and agree on a Right Respecting Mascot to raise school community’s awareness of children’s rights.
- Create a video to raise awareness of the main UNCRC articles the team have been focusing on.
Presenting their aims and actions to date to parents and the school governors.
- Creating Class Charter
